Mayu Masuda’s flowing curves remind her of the mountains of Shikoku, her hometown, as she follows the lines of the body.
Mayu Masuda is attracted to the female form because the soft shape of the body reminds her of a mother figure, like a mountain that always watches over us from afar.
The Ouroboros serpent. It is an ancient symbol meaning infinity, rebirth, and circulation, etc. The largest thing (mountain, earth, universe…) and the smallest thing (cell, DNA, atom…) are connected by the head and tail.
They are opposites, yet closely related.
Mayu Masuda was inspired by the reflection of mountains on the surface of water and the cell division of a fertilized egg, the source of our life, and wanted to express it using the human body.
